Step-by-Step: Registering a Domain Name for a Site

You don't need to buy a domain name and associate it with your website, but there are numerous benefits to doing this. Most importantly, a domain name is key to building your brand and gives your website an easy-to-remember, recognizable web address.

Note: if you already own a domain name that you want to point to your website, click here for instructions on how to do this.

The easiest way to purchase a domain name is to simply publish your site.  (For more on publishing a site, take a look at our tutorial on the topic.)  To buy a domain name this way, follow these steps:

  1. In the window that shows your site has been published, type a domain name you want to purchase in the field labeled "Search for & register a custom domain for your site." Choose .com, .net, .info, or .biz from the drop-down menu, then click Search.
